Background
About the song
«Fiesta pagana» first appeared on Mägo de Oz’s 2000 album «Finisterra» and became the band’s best-known song: folk metal with a violin, and a lyric that tells the listener to stand up against tithes, the Inquisition and a well-fed abbot. Version 2.0 is the band’s own re-recording from 2013. The words are the ones from 2000, which is part of the point — the complaint has not needed updating.
Did you know?
The song is a run of commands — stand up, raise your fist, come, say, undress her — and one of them attaches its pronoun to the verb, which is where the written accent in Spanish suddenly becomes obligatory.
Charts & streaming
The 2.0 re-recording was released on 11 November 2013. The original appeared on «Finisterra» on 15 November 2000 and remains the band’s signature song.
