Background
About the song
«Tu cosa fai questa sera» is a summer single by the Roman singer Noemi, released on Friday 29 May 2026 by Columbia Records and Sony Music Italy. The title is an ordinary question that anyone in Italy might send by message on a warm evening: "and you, what are you doing tonight?". The song was written by Noemi together with the songwriter Paolo Antonacci and produced by Vito Salamanca, who appears next to her as a credited artist on the streaming platforms. Salamanca had already worked with the Neapolitan artist Samurai Jay, with whom he released the single «Halo» in June 2025, and the magazine Sorrisi e Canzoni TV also links him to Samurai Jay's hit «Ossessione». The track lasts about two minutes and fifty seconds.
Musically the song marks a change for an artist known above all for her powerful, bluesy voice. Sorrisi e Canzoni TV described it as a light, danceable pop song with a flamenco flavour and Latin sounds, made for the summer. Noemi herself explained in an interview with the same magazine that the piece has two souls: the verses are more blues and more serious, while the chorus is lighter and opens up. She said she wanted that chorus to pay homage to Raffaella Carrà, the great star of Italian television and pop, whom she remembers with affection from the first season of «The Voice of Italy» in 2013, when both of them were coaches.
The lyric is told by a woman who cannot decide what to do about a man. In the verses she sums up the relationship with a series of bitter definitions: being with him is a loss, a waste of time, a short moment of love followed by a long time of resentment, the only mistake she keeps repeating. She remembers that summer was already half over when the two of them understood how things really stood, and she treats the kiss she is giving him as the very last one. Then comes the question of the title, asked again and again like a refrain, as if she could not help sending one more message.
The chorus is built on contradiction. She admits that she misses him, but she says she hopes never to cross his path again for the rest of her life; she looks back on how pleasant it was to pretend that the story made sense; and she ends up torn between leaving and staying. The second verse adds other images: a tear running down while the stars turn in the sky, rumours spreading like gossip, two people standing at opposite poles, nights in which he thinks of her while she no longer dreams of him. In the bridge she says she would go even to hell rather than to a silver heaven, before the final verdict: it looked like love, and it was not.
