Background
About the song
«Amasijo de huesos» («A bundle of bones») is a song by the Spanish rock band Sidecars. It is the fourth of the thirteen tracks on «Cuestión de gravedad» («A matter of gravity»), the band's fifth album, which came out on 13 October 2017 on Warner Music Spain. The studio version lasts about four and a half minutes. It was not one of the album's official singles, which were «Tu mejor pesadilla», «Locos de atar» and «Cuando caigas en shock», but it had its own video and the radio station Cadena 100 recommended it several times as a song to dedicate to someone.
Sidecars was formed in 2006 in Alameda de Osuna, a neighbourhood of Madrid. The band is led by its singer and guitarist, Juancho, with Gerbass on bass and Ruly on drums; Sergio Valdehita on keyboards and Ramiro Nieto on percussion complete the current line-up. Juancho is the brother of Leiva, the singer and guitarist of the Madrid band Pereza, who according to the radio station Cadena 100 produced several of the group's records. Sidecars made its debut in 2008 with an album named after the band, followed by «Cremalleras» (2010), «Fuego cruzado» (2014) and the live album «Contra las cuerdas» (2016).
«Cuestión de gravedad» was produced by Nigel Walker, who had already worked with the band on «Fuego cruzado», and it was recorded in the studios La Casamurada and Music Lan. Cadena 100 explains that the band recorded it in a studio in Tarragona together with Sergio Valdehita, Ramiro Nieto and Pere Mallén while they were finishing the last part of the «Contra las cuerdas» tour. The result is a direct pop-rock record with guitars, keyboards and big choruses, and «Amasijo de huesos» is one of its warmest and calmest moments.
The title needs a little explanation. An «amasijo» is a shapeless mass or a jumble, and «huesos» are bones, so an «amasijo de huesos» is a tender, slightly ironic way of describing a thin, fragile body. In the song the singer speaks to someone he admires deeply. He walks behind that person, always keeps them in front of him and promises that he will never leave. He admits that he has doubts and that he is afraid of not being good enough, but the other person always helps him at the moment he needs it most. When he looks at himself in the mirror he sees someone different, and he wonders whether he should keep waiting or whether his chance has already gone. What amazes him is that so much talent can fit inside such a slight body. Every day he looks a little more like that person, and he has stopped trying to avoid it; even half of that talent would be too much for him, but he would gladly accept it.
