Background
About the song
«Isaltino» is a hip-hop song by the Portuguese rapper Plutonio, released on streaming platforms on Friday 2 October 2026 as the first single from a new album planned for later that year. The beat is by the producer Charlie Beats, and the track lasts about three minutes and forty seconds, according to the platform Hip Hop Portugal. The day after its release the song was already at number one on the Apple Music chart of songs in Portugal, as the news site 24 Notícias reported.
The title is the first name of Isaltino Morais, one of the best-known local politicians in Portugal. Born in Mirandela in 1949, he has been mayor of Oeiras, the municipality on the coast west of Lisbon, for most of the time since 1986, and he was also a government minister between 2002 and 2003. His career has had famous ups and downs: he served a prison sentence between 2013 and 2014 for tax fraud and money laundering, came back as mayor in 2017 and won again in October 2025, an election he himself described to the newspaper Público as his eleventh. In the chorus Plutonio calls himself a future version of the mayor for Alcabideche, the parish of the neighbouring municipality of Cascais where he grew up, in the Bairro da Cruz Vermelha. The idea is a joke about local fame and survival, not a political statement.
The surprise came with the video, directed by Francisco Ramalho and filmed between Oeiras and Tokyo. Isaltino Morais himself appears in it, smoking a cigar and chatting with the comedian Pedro Teixeira da Mota, while Plutonio plays the role of his driver and bodyguard. According to the local magazine New in Oeiras, the mayor took the provocation of the song with humour and agreed to take part. The song had first been heard by surprise in «Infância 2026», a piece of content by Pedro Teixeira da Mota, who works with Plutonio at the label Bridgetown; that first glimpse made the public curious and started a wave of videos on TikTok before the official release.
Plutonio is one of the most popular Portuguese artists of the last decade. Born in Cascais in 1985, he is known by his stage name; the Portuguese press gives his real name as João Colaço. He released «Histórias da Minha Life» in 2013, then «Preto e Vermelho» (2016), «Sacrifício: Sangue, Lágrimas, Suor» (2019), «Ordem & Progresso» (2023) and «Carta de Alforria» (2024). His hits include «Meu Deus» and the collaborations «Cafeína» with DJ Dadda and «Alô» with Dillaz, both number one in Portugal, and he was nominated twice for the MTV Europe Music Award for best Portuguese act. In 2025 he sold out two nights at the MEO Arena in Lisbon, and he has announced his first stadium show, at the Estádio José Alvalade on 5 June 2027.
