Background
About the song
«Ta Pedindo Toma» (often written «Tá Pedindo Toma») is a 2026 Brazilian funk track led by MC Leozinho ZS, together with MC Murilo MT, Mc DR, MC RN do Capão, Mc Pelourinho and the producer DJ Jhow Beats. It came out as a single on 25 June 2026, the same day its official video appeared on MC Leozinho ZS's YouTube channel. The data service Soundcharts lists it under the label Legenda Records, with a running time of 4 minutes 36 seconds. The video description credits DJ Jhow Beats as the music producer, and his name is called out at the start and at the end of the track, a habit of funk producers, who tag their beats so that listeners know who made them. A month later the song became part of «Na Contramão», the album MC Leozinho ZS released on 28 July 2026.
MC Leozinho ZS was born in Itabuna, in the state of Bahia, and grew up in Capão Redondo, a huge neighbourhood in the south zone of São Paulo, where his family moved when he was a baby and where he still lives. According to Billboard Brasil, he lost his sight at eight months old because of bacterial meningitis, so he has no memory of seeing. As a child he listened to his uncle's CDs. At school, a public school where five other pupils were also blind, he helped his classmates learn Braille. He wrote rhymes but was too shy to sing them, until, at fourteen, the organisers of a dance party in his area heard about a blind MC with a good voice and pushed him onto the stage. The crowd liked him. His father later gave him 500 reais to record a song, and that first recording became a local hit.
For years Leozinho was known for what Brazilians call conscious funk: songs about life in the favela, violence, poverty and prison. He has named «Vários Abandona», a song about the suffering of prisoners and their families, as his biggest success, and he credits Neguinho do Kaxeta as his main teacher in funk. He also released a DVD called «Maestro das Favelas». Billboard Brasil described how he works with technology without sight: he started a computer course at seven, used computers on his own by nine, and records his voice with the Reaper software and the OSARA add-on, which makes it work with a screen reader. He writes and memorises his lyrics on his phone and sends guide recordings to producers through WhatsApp.
In 2026 his career took a new turn. The collaboration «Famoso Ímã | O Poderoso Chatão», with MC Lele JP, MC Poze do Rodo and DJ Gordinho da VF, reached number one on Spotify's Top 50 Brasil and passed 100 million streams. The album «Na Contramão» followed: thirteen tracks with guests such as MC Ryan SP, MC Livinho and MC Marks, and a clear move from conscious funk towards party music. The artist told Billboard Brasil that he wanted to show that funk can talk about social problems and about parties at the same time. One track, «Na Relíquia do Ceguinho», even treats his blindness with humour. The magazine called «Ta Pedindo Toma» the calling card of the album.
