Background
About the song
«Nicole Kidman» is a song by Adéla, the stage name of Adéla Jergová, a Slovak singer, songwriter and dancer who was born in Bratislava on 27 November 2003. It is the second track on «Prima», her first full studio album, which Capitol Records released on 4 September 2026, the same day the music video came out. The song lasts just over three minutes and was later promoted as the fourth single from the album. As the title makes clear, it is a tribute to the Australian-American actress Nicole Kidman, one of the best-known film stars of the last thirty years.
Adéla took an unusual road to this moment. In 2023 she was one of the young women in «The Debut: Dream Academy», a talent competition organised by the South Korean company HYBE and the American label Geffen to create a new global girl group. That group became KATSEYE, but Adéla was not part of it: she was eliminated after a public vote. The competition later reached a very large audience through the Netflix documentary series «Pop Star Academy: Katseye», and many viewers started to follow her career from that point. She signed a solo contract with Capitol Records in 2025 and released her first EP, «The Provocateur», in August of that year.
Her breakthrough came with «Ain’t in LA», a song in which she says she is tired of seeing the same faces and the same beauty standards celebrated again and again in Los Angeles. That single took her onto the Billboard Hot 100, and with it she became the first Slovak artist ever to appear on the main American singles chart. «Nicole Kidman» then went much further, as the section on its commercial success explains.
Adéla has told the story behind the song in several interviews, including one with the British radio network Capital FM. While she was writing the album, she watched Stanley Kubrick’s film «Eyes Wide Shut» (1999) for the first time. She admitted that the film itself did not win her over at first, but that Kidman did: in her view the actress stole every scene she appeared in, and she wished there had been more of her. The following day, in January 2026, Adéla went to a party connected with the Golden Globes. She said she felt slightly out of place there, as somebody who had never acted in a film, but she managed to get in anyway, wore a very tight corset and felt glamorous all evening. That feeling of being a movie star for one night became the central idea of the song.
